Skiing the Chic-Chocs

April 5th, 2010 admin

Last week, I met up with the Meatheads and headed to the Chic-Choc Mountains in search of some backcountry skiing. All in all, it took 14 hours to get there, but was well worth it. The crew of Dan Marion, Stacey Rachdorf, Rooster, and myself set up base camp in a hostel on the coast about 30 minutes from the mountains. Despite the less than average snow year, we knew there were plenty of worthy lines to be skied. It was only a matter of waiting for the right time and safe snow pack. In typical east coast fashion, the forecast was filled with rain and our hopes of great skiing were all but gone. That night, we saw mixed precipitation resulting in a hard crust on the snow. As we headed up for what was the last day of the trip, we were hoping to see some good snow at higher elevations.  When we pulled up to Virginie, our guide for the day, she had a big smile on her face. At that point we knew it wasn’t all bad. The night before, while it rained up to 4″ inches in parts of New England, the area we planned on skiing had received over a foot of fresh snow. Check out the new Meathead movie for a look at what went down.

NJCAA Division III National Basketball Tournament

March 22nd, 2010 admin

For the post 20 years, the NJCAA Division III National Basketball Championships have been held at in my hometown, Delhi, NY. This year was the tournament’s last year in Delhi. I spent a decent amount of time shooting the games and had a blast doing so. My setup for the majority was my 40D body and 70-200 lens with speed lights remotely triggered on either side of the basket. The level of basketball being played greatly exceeded what is normally seen in this area. Here are some of my favorite images. Click the images to enlarge.

Skiing in the Capital Region

February 12th, 2010 admin

Yesterday, I drove down to the Washington DC area and met up with the Meatheads. A couple rare snowstorms hit the Capital Region back to back and left the area with over three feet of snow in places. The streets are cluttered with buried cars, huge snow banks and lots of fun features for Will, Andy and Shea. Here are a couple pictures to give you an idea of what it looks like. Check back soon for some skiing related pictures.

Traveling Circus Article in Freeskiing Magazine

January 20th, 2010 admin

The Line Traveling Circus was featured in an article found in Freeskiing Magazine this winter.  The article included a couple of my photos from a unique feature from last winter. The Meathead Films crew met up with me in my home town, Delhi, NY. Will is full of ideas and is always looking for unique features to hit. I knew of this bike rack and asked Will what he thought about hitting it with a couple of bikes lined up to switch-up around. Will was liking this idea, so we grabbed a couple of bikes and headed out. Will put on a ridiculous showing with a variety of tricks thrown in there. Check out “Wild Stallions” (Meathead Films) for a better look at what went down.

The same issue of Freeskiing included the below image of LJ Strenio, shot on a long quad kink in New Hampshire as a part of a Meathead Films shoot.
